Spotlight on our licorice hard candy

Licorice: yay or nay.

Licorice is one of those "love it" or "hate it" flavors, probably because it has such a strong and distinct taste. Licorice is not just a candy, it is actually a sweet aromatic flavor extracted from the Glycyrrhiza Glabra plant.

At Nasty Jack’s Candy we have a passion for licorice: it is the first candy we produced and sold back in 2003. With more than 17 years of experience, we master the production of "gourmet” licorice. One of our loyal customers calls it “the Champagne of licorice”!

What makes our Licorice Hard Candy unique?

We use real licorice

To put licorice in perspective: there are thousands of chocolate companies in the world, but only about 118 licorice companies. Only a handful use real licorice in their products as we do. That’s why we are so proud to continue the production of authentic and high quality licorice candy here in Arlington, WA. So when you are having one of our licorice hard candies, you know that you have something unique and precious.

Gluten free

The ingredients we use are real licorice root, beet sugar, anise, cassava root, low-fructose corn syrup and gum arabic, a rather expensive emulsifier once used to make winegum. Unlike other licorice candy, we don’t use flour products in our licorice. Instead, we use a combination of tapioca and gum Arabic which gives our black licorice a hard, smooth texture unmatched by any other black licorice on the market.

Beet sugar

The sugar beets used in the production of beet sugar have a number of health benefits. One of the main benefits of beets is that they lower the acidity level in the blood, allowing for better circulation. Compared to sugar cane, which is highly acidic, the sugar beet is a much better source of natural sugars. Beets have high levels of betaine. Recent studies have linked consumption of beets (and thus increased amounts of betaine) to a reduction in inflammation markers that lead to heart disease. In these studies, people who consumed significant amounts of betaine had a reduction of these inflammation markers of as much as 10-20%.

Suck, don’t chew!

Our all-natural licorice drops are designed to be sucked on rather than chewed, the old-fashioned way. You will find “suck, don’t chew” on all our hard candy packaging. We recommend tucking our hard candy in your cheek or under your tongue: it allows the mucus membranes to absorb marijuana (CBD/THC), bypassing the digestive system and allows it to reach the bloodstream faster. And you will enjoy the rich flavor longer!
